City Traveling: Johannesburg
Johannesburg. Just saying the word conjures images of the grungy, grimy layers of every street and highway. The people- varied and interesting bursting with stories. The weather- astringent and enveloping. The food- authentic, creative, exciting.
Here is my joberg by neighborhood, and naturally food.

neighborgoods market johannesburg
12 decades art hotel, maboneng
market on main - maboneng
a fun place to spend a sunday morning. Variety of stalls, with art galleries up above. Make way for hipsters.
giant glass ball type guard house - maboneng
paul's ice cream - rosebank mall
the best ice cream I've had in Johannesburg. Creative flavors too!
love this style of cake decoration, wacky and awesome!
beautiful rustic looking cakes and fresh butter- neighborgoods market joberg
fancy meilie bread crostini
for those who don't know what meilie bread is, its kind of a steamed cornbread like cake that you can slice and each just-steamed, or pan fried. Its my favorite swazi food.
lamb pita
liege waffle
the second liege waffle I've had on this continent
hooray! traffic.
hot chocolate at the leopard in melville
Great spot for dinner or lunch in Melville. Its a bit pricey, but it is worth it. When I went there, I bought the chef's cookbook Lampedusa Pie, and she signed it! It has flavors from around the world and then some the best South African dishes.
breakfast at a la bouffe
The best french restaurant we have found in Johannesburg. It has frog's legs, tarte tatin, croque mouseiur, and fantastic croissants.
Its not terribly busy, but you're also not out of luck if you don't happen to get a table. There is a really good italian place around the corner and a mexican joint right next to it!
when I need my city fix, joberg isn't half bad.
I love all the cake photos! Looks like a lovely place :)
